Hi, broad question re latest Job Support Scheme that I’m hoping someone can provide clarity on (I’ve looked through Gov.uk, and am now more confused than ever.)
Is it possible to claim anything through the job support scheme ? – I’m a contractor, Ltd company, Director (and therefore an employee ?) taking NI min salary and looking (in vain) for work.
I’m seeing that something might be feasible provided I work 20% of hours – training qualifies for this time, or it would appear so.
Many thanksscott.moreton291074MemberNovember 22, 2020 at 6:43 pmPost count: 30
Sorry for the delay Miles. The JSS has been superseded by the furlough scheme which now comes into place until the end of March 2021.
The announcement came on Saturday October 31 and the employee had to be on the payroll as at midnight 30 October 2020.
The previous furlough scheme was based on salary as at March 2020 (the old tax year) however the new furlough scheme will be based on salary as at Oct20 and it will start off at 80%. This may change down the line (previously it was 80% for a few weeks then 70% then 60%).
As a director, you can claim for this Miles and your accountant should be able to administer this for you although you can do it yourself.
The company needs to be registered for PAYE and the claim is made via a HMRC account whereby the PAYE service for employee is one of those services on the account.AnonymousInactiveNovember 23, 2020 at 12:10 pmPost count: 2
Scott, Thank you. No problems. The intervening period has added much clarity, and as you say, the JRS scheme is now extended until March, so unless I can find another contracting job, this will be very helpful to that time, at least.
Thanks once again

Thanks for your reply Miles.
Please download the recruiter list (the orange button at the right of the members’ page) if you have not already done so. This will help you with your next contract search and you can also register for the new recruiter site once I provide details shortly.
